Trauma Competent Caregiver Training
Are you parenting, teaching, babysitting or caring for a child with a history of trauma?
Abuse, neglect, fetal drug exposure, domestic violence, food instability, shelter instability, loss of a parent…all lead to trauma.
Join us as we dive into understanding how trauma affects the:
- brain
- body
- belief system of a child
Learn how we, as caregivers, can bring hope and healing to the children.
A one-day training event, Introduction to Trauma Competent Caregiving assists helping professionals, parents, and other caregivers in gaining an understanding of why kids from “hard places” experience the behavioral and emotional challenges they do.
Instructors:
- Melanie McCracken works for the South Texas Alliance for Orphans, is certified in Trauma Competent Caregiver by Back2Back Ministries, and is a foster/adoptive mom.
- Maren Baker works for the South Texas Alliance for Orphans, is a Trust Based Relational Intervention practitioner (TBRI), worked as a CPS legal worker and is a foster/adoptive mom.
Participants can expect to leave the training with:
~ A comprehensive understanding of the essential skills of trauma competent care.
~ New pratical strategies, techniques and skills to manage children with a traumatic history.
~ Resources, handouts, and checklists to utilize in your area of work and/or your family that evening.

Light snacks, coffee, and water will be provided. There will be an hour break for off-site lunch on your own.
